After putting the Macbook back together, I booted from a USB thumb drive and launched disk utility. In DU, I can see the thumb drive, but I can't see the new hard drive at all. Booting from Internet Recovery is the same. What's more, I repeated all of these steps on a different Macbook, and the results were the same there - drive not seen. Macbook os x 10 6 download.

Macbook Not Recognizing Flash Drive
Hi! I just bought my new Macbook Pro and one of the first things I attempted to do was get data from my 750 GB external hard drive. Sadly, it doesn't recognize it! I've been reading other threads with similar problems, but none seem to match up to my situation exactly..
Disk Utility DOES recognize it, but doesn't let me do much with it.
It does NOT show up in System Profiler.
I have tried a different cord with no results.
This hard drive works on my PCs.
I've also noticed that when I click 'Info' in Disk Utility it recognizes it's location as 'Internal'. That doesn't seem right to me. Could that be the problem? And how do I fix it? Thanks, everyone!

- Tutorial to fix Mac not recogning external hard drive to access external hdd on Mac again, and to recover lost data from unrecognized external hard drive on Mac.
- Test it with another computer, if it doesn’t work with another computer then the problem is with the WD drive. Check Disk Utility (in the Applications - Utilities folder) to see if it is recognised at all, it may be possible to run “First Aid” on the Disk to repair it.
